Berkhamsted Art Society (BAS) has hosted its most successful Art Fair so far, showcasing the work of local artists of various abilities and ages.
BAS treasurer and membership secretary Ian said the fair, held from November 8 to 10, was the biggest the society has hosted since it was established in 1929. The event featured more than 550 works of art from 66 local artists from Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead, Tring and Bovingdon.
Speaking to BERKHAMSTEDnews, Ian said: “It’s very rewarding; it’s nice to have people appreciate what you do and come back and keep participating.”
Children from Bridgewater School and Swing Gate Infant School were among those who displayed their work at Berkhamsted Civic Centre. In keeping with the fair’s ‘light and dark’ theme, they used stencils, paint, black paper and white pens to create their masterpieces.
Ian credited the work of BAS’ late former chairperson Frances Evershed for her efforts to expand the society, which has seen its membership double since 2019.
He said: “She gave us the foundations to do what we can now. We want to make it more accessible, and that begins with the kids.
“We carried on her legacy.”
In a post on Facebook, a spokesperson for BAS said: “Wow, Berkhamsted Art Fair was a huge success! So many visitors, so many children happily painting and so much art now in new homes. All we can say is thank you!
“Everyone made it such a special few days.”
