OLD MEMORIES: The Ruislip dairies plane crash of 1960, remembered

Published on: 13th February 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

People who remember the Express Dairies in Ruislip and are of a certain age might remember this dramatic incident. Residents were left shocked on June 1, 1960, when an RAF Avro Anson crashed onto the roof of the Victoria Road factory.

It was a forced emergency landing due to an engine failure, seriously injuring its two-man crew. The two passengers in the aircraft were a team from BBC News and were left uninjured. Luckily, no fatalities were recorded. The plane had taken off from RAF Northolt and was intended to go to another base in Norfolk.

Do you have any memories of this notable event? Or perhaps you have photographs of the old dairy factories? If so, or if you have any old stories and photos concerning the Northwood and Ruislip area, feel free to send them over to newsdesk@mynewsmag.co.uk and they could be featured in a future magazine or online story!
