Residents of the Meriden Estate have been expressing frustration with the current parking situation since the area’s redevelopment.
One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, stated: “I don’t recall there being no parking in the original plans. There is a massive car park that is empty and only for those living in the flats behind the shops.”
Another, Jackie Taylor, described a near-miss she had there recently as well: “Went through last week. Turning left from Meriden Way into York Way. Usual chaos!
“What made it worse, I had to be over in opposite lane to get past all parked cars. Cars were coming towards me, making it difficult, as I had nowhere to pull over.”
Driving instructor Steve Cooper hit out at those performing illegal parking, saying: “As a local driving instructor, I nearly had an accident on a lesson a few weeks back. The enforcement needs to be constant, and the police need to prosecute the zig-zag parking.”
When contacted for comment, Ruche Peng, a senior project manager at WCH said “We’re aware of the reports of parking issues on the Meriden and we’re continuing to work hard to address this.
“Watford Community Housing is fully funding an interim car parking facility on the corner of The Turnstones and The Gossamers, with work beginning in the next two weeks.
“We are also working diligently with Herts County Council and our contractor Mulalley, bringing forward the construction of permanent car park spaces at Market Square.”
