This recent Red Nose Day, Friday, March 18, Northwood College for Girls took part in an ambitious day-long ‘Joke-a-thon’, raising over £2,000 for the charity Comic Relief.

It came following a week of fun-filled activities, titled ‘Confidence through Comedy’, which included workshops in comedy from Laughology, a Red Nose Day themed photo booth and a Just Dance competition.

Finally, it was time for the Joke-a-thon, running continuously through the school day from 8:30am to 3:30pm and livestreamed to parents, a whopping 800 students and staff took part in the festivities. 2,109 people watched the livestream and the event proved to be a great success.

Speaking about the event, Headteacher Rebecca Brown, said: “This year we thought hard about how to make sure that the time we spend fundraising is purposeful and beneficial to both our girls and those that we are raising money to support.

“Our own theme, ‘Confidence through Comedy’, encouraged our girls to find confidence through public speaking and performance, and of course reflected the joy and community spirit that are synonymous with Northwood College.”
