Harrow Carers, a charity that supports carers across Pinner, is thrilled to share the success of its new partnership with Novus Homeshare.
Vilas Hilai, home share co-ordinator at Novus Homeshare, has been matching young people with older residents who have a spare room, offering them affordable accommodation and friendship. The service is now part of the Harrow Carers charity.
Vilas said: “We have several matches. One pair has been together for 10 years this April. They complete each other’s sentences and even have a similar sense of humour. They bounce off each other’s energy!”
Anand Sharma is sharing his story after being partnered with Stephen, a retired electrician who wished to remain independent.
He said: “Stephen and I have things in common, in all things electric. We potter around in the garage fixing things. For me, it is an opportunity to escape from my work in the evenings and engage in activities with Stephen, spending time rewinding. For Stephen, it is about connecting with his past.”
The service allows the elderly individual to remain living in their home, and the young person affordable accommodation and a new friend.
