Garston residents can expect to enjoy an increase in feathered and furry friends this spring, thanks to the new bird and bat boxes at Garston Manor Allotments.
The project was initiated and led by Tom Goulder, chair of North Watford Allotment and Garden Society, with financial support from Woodside councillors’ locality budget.
The boxes were installed last month and should last for generations, particularly if cleaned every winter ready for new arrivals in the spring.
Tom said: “It’s great to support nature, and there’s no better place to do this than up at the allotments. It was pleasing to have someone tell me that within hours of being put up, several blue tits and a long-tailed tit had started to check them out.”
Woodside councillor Richard Wenham said: “It’s great to support community initiatives in Woodside and pleasing that we have done so with this nature project. It was good fun joining in with putting them up on that cold morning.”
