E-LEARNING: Unique digital curriculum at Northwood school recognised for success

Published on: 2nd February 2024   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Northwood school’s first-of-its-kind digital curriculum has proven so successful, it is now being rolled out to three other schools in the country.

The Digital Futures Programme had its world premiere at UTC Heathrow school in 2021 and was developed to give pupils a head-start in new digital careers. It has earned acclaim from educators as well as winning three global awards.

The first set of graduates since the launch have now started apprenticeship roles with the school’s industry partners as a direct result of the programme.

Due to this success, three schools in the Thames Valley region, who are also part of the Activate Learning Education Trust (ALET), will begin running the programme as of the next school year. These schools are UTC Reading, UTC Swindon and UTC Oxfordshire.

Aimed at 14 to 19 year olds, the programme also contributes to a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma and/or an Extended Diploma in Engineering.

Mike Halliday, head of employer engagement at ALET, who has been instrumental in getting the programme off the ground, said: “ALET is playing a critical part in building a skills pipeline essential to the UK economy to be competitive in the digital world.”
