MUCH-NEEDED: Northwood finally pick up first league win

Published on: 17th September 2019   |   By: Tim Green   |   Category: Northwood F.C

With just one point in the Isthmian League so far, Northwood went into tonight’s game against Staines Town at the Acretweed Stadium looking for a morale-boosting win and came away with three points.

With Dan Pett and new signing Patrick Campbell in the starting line-up, some early pressure paid off for Northwood when Kweku Lucan set up Alex Witham to fire into the bottom corner after 11 minutes.

As the first half drew to a close, Staines grew into the game but it was Northwood’s Harry Lodovica who doubled the home side’s lead when he bundled in a header after 36 minutes.

Woods manager Scott Dash was the happier manager at half time after an assured performance from his side with Lucan outstanding.

After a deflected shot got Staines back in the game in the second half, the visitors grew in confidence but the Woods made sure of the points when Liam McCrohan headed home a Charlie Hayford free kick.

The Woods next travel to Bedfont Sports in their Velocity Trophy Group match on September 24 and now sit in 14th place in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

After the game, Northwood manager Scott Dash took to Twitter to express his relief at the win.

He tweeted: “Finally it’s been coming and yes we have not been good enough at times yes we have not had much luck yes we have been beaten by better teams but tonight we showed we can and in large spells played very well , Staines were again a big problem and have some good talent but 3pts❤.”
