LIGHTS OUT: Fox saved by vets after getting stuck in lamp

Published on: 16th September 2026   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Featured

Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital (TWH) had an unusual case in September after a fox got stuck in a solar lantern in Rickmansworth.

The fox, named Lumen, was taken to the hospital after a resident found her in distress. At the facility, a specialist team of vets carefully freed Lumen from the ornate lamp.

In a video shared to social media, vets used pliers and bolt cutters to break the metal casing as delicately as possible. Lumen was eventually freed, revealing a neck injury from thrashing against the metal.

Luckily, the injury was not severe; Lumen received antibiotics before making a full recovery and being released back into the wild.

TWH issued a reminder for residents to check gardens for obstacles that may harm wild animals. Objects with small openings, loops, or cavities can cause accidental harm to curious animals such as hedgehogs, foxes, and pets.
