SCARE FAIR: Scarecrow trail set to return

Published on: 16th September 2026   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Community

The annual Chorleywood scarecrow trail will return to the village for its 11th year.

The theme for this year’s scarecrow festival is “Play Time”. Participants can choose to theme their scarecrow after a children’s TV, film or book character, video game characters or even after their favourite toy.

In a statement, organisers said: “Translating ideas into scarecrows can be challenging but fun. The most successful ones often have expressive faces, striking poses, relevant props and straw!”

Competing scarecrows need to be in place on the morning of Friday, October 2 and remain in place until 6pm on Sunday, October 4.

Proceeds from the trail will go to support Chorleywood Primary Schools. Previous entries include scarecrows based on Humpty Dumpty, Van Gogh, and Minions.

Group projects between neighbours are also encouraged with organisers saying, “The bigger, the better!”.

Residents are encouraged to follow the map through the beautiful village streets to see the creative efforts.
