‘JIGGERY-POKERY’: Croxley artist raises more than £36,000 for animal charities

A woman from Croxley who makes personalised greeting cards in her spare time has raised more than £36,000 for charity over the past six years.

Despite working six days a week at Robert Harris Jewellers in Rickmansworth, Jean Armstrong has designed hundreds of cards. Many customers ask Jean to put their pets at the centre of their personalised designs, and in return Jean prints 10 cards and three different designs for just £15.

Jean said: “It’s all a bit of jiggery-pokery. I use Photoshop to edit the photographs and add a few other bits like bees and butterflies.”

All of the funds raised go towards animal charities, particularly those that work with racing dogs.

Jean, who has taken in four retired greyhounds over her lifetime, explained: “The way these dogs are treated is horrendous. In Spain, the dogs are often used by hunters for a season and then disposed of.”

Jean’s cards are available to buy at Robert Harris or customers can order their own personalised design by contacting BlackroseLexi on Etsy.
