A Gerrards Cross man will have to pay more than £2,500 for fly tipping in Chalfont St Peter.
Jonathas Da Rocha Souza, 45, pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal dumping when he appeared at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 7.
On May 12 last year, a council enforcement officer came across a pile of waste left in a lay-by on Layters Green Lane, Chalfont St Peter.
Following an investigation, the source of the waste was identified and Souza was interviewed. He admitted to having accepted £30 to dispose of the items, which he then illegally dumped.
Magistrates fined him £1,384 and also ordered him to pay the £1,010.62 costs for the clean-up and his prosecution. Along with a victim surcharge of £138, this means he must pay a total of £2,532.62.
Councillor Gareth Williams, Deputy Leader of Buckinghamshire Council, said: “This criminal ended up seriously out of pocket when he made the mistake of fly tipping. Buckinghamshire Council’s stance on fly tipping is crystal clear: it is illegal and will be met with consequences.”
