In the new year, St Mary’s Church in Rickmansworth will be celebrating their 750th anniversary of the first appointment of a Vicar, Richard de Chelveston, in 1270.
The church and the community have a series of plans to mark the significant year, with one being to plant 750 trees as after initial discussions with the parishioners, local schools and the council, it became clear the initiative will generally be popular with the whole community.
A spokesperson for the church said: “We are taking this opportunity to spread the word to anybody in the wider local community who would be able to support this initiative by planting trees.
“We have registered ourselves as a community group with the OVO energy ‘I Dig Trees’ scheme.”
OVO energy is on a journey with their members to reach zero-carbon living, and trees are helping them get there.
By the end of 2019, local communities, volunteers and even OVO staff are set to reach an amazing milestone – 1million trees planted up and down the UK.
More news about the tree planting in next month’s issue.
