A football legend is set to make an appearance at Amersham Town FC this autumn.
Fans of Luther Blissett OBE, all-time top scorer of Watford FC, will have the chance to meet their hero at Amersham Town FC stadium on Saturday, October 8. The evening will include an on-stage interview, as well as an audience Q and A with the 80’s star.
Director of Strategy, Darren Henderson, said: “The event is the first of many exciting evenings planned over the coming season. It’s all part of the new club strategy to engage with the community and improve the visibility of the club.”
Blissett is well renowned for his footballing achievements; he scored 180 goals for his beloved Watford and became the first black player to score for England when he netted a hattrick against Luxembourg in December 1982.
Beyond his footballing legend, Blisset is also admired for his service to the community. He has worked with Herts Police to educate on knife and hate crime, has represented Show Racism the Red Card in their schools programme, and has worked tirelessly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to support others in need.
In 2020 Blissett sought to provide meals for local families as well as care packs for NHS workers and the local Peace Hospice of whom he is a Patron. He was appointed as Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire in 2021 and was awarded an OBE in 2022.
