HUGE CONGRATULATIONS: Former Hemel-based police officer named in New Year Honours List 2025

A Hemel Hempstead-based police officer has been named in the New Year Honours List 2025.

Kerry-Anne Cooper, former police chaplain at Hertfordshire Constabulary, has been named in the list for Services to the Community of Hemel Hempstead.

She served as Dacorum police chaplain for over five years and has since founded The Liberty Tea Rooms & Community Hub, a charity which provides a safe haven for vulnerable people and works with leading local housing association Thrive Homes. The award-winning charity charges nothing for its food and drink, relying entirely on customers to make donations through their honesty box. Primarily staffed by volunteers over 18, people offer their time and develop hospitality skills, social skills and confidence.

Kerry-Anne became a police chaplain in 2019 and provided consistent pastoral support to officers and staff until she left the force in November this year. Described as “naturally caring and empathetic” by Herts Constabulary, Kerry-Anne was a hugely popular volunteer. A recent house move to Lincolnshire with husband Owen has prompted her to leave the force.

Kerry-Anne said: “I was blown away by the news when the letter came through. This award is recognition not just for me but all the hard-working volunteers and individuals who have made the tearoom and our associated activities so successful. I also loved being a police chaplain and met so many wonderful people as part of my work. I feel really honoured and plan to continue my work at Liberty Tea Rooms into the future.”

Incoming Chief Constable Andy Prophet said: “The achievements of Kerry-Anne are nothing short of amazing. [Her] hard work, compassion and sense of duty are a shining example to us all. [She is] so deserving of the recognition that has been bestowed upon [her].”

Gavin Stephens, chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council, said: “A huge congratulations and well done to all of those recognised for their service to policing in His Majesty the King’s New Year Honours List.

“Police bravery and dedication to duty has been at the forefront this year, and I am so pleased to see so many officers, staff, and volunteers from across the country awarded for their contribution to keeping our communities safe. Policing is a job like no other that requires a tremendous amount of commitment, dedication and courage, and I am proud to see the recipients recognised in this way.”
