A Rickmansworth resident has been awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours List 2025, in recognition of his services to sport.
Simon MacQueen has been the director of strategy for Sport England for the past six years and has held various other roles with the public body for a further 14 years.
He has almost 30 years of experience working in the sports industry, beginning his career at Watford FC in 1998 as the football development officer.
Now, 27 years on, Simon is the chair of the Watford FC Community Sports & Educational Trust.
Simon has been extensively involved in fundraising for the charity Alice’s Arc, in memory of his late daughter who passed in 2019 after she was diagnosed with cancer.
In a statement addressing the 1,200 honours recipients, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “Each and every day, ordinary people go out and do extraordinary things for their communities.
“They represent the very best of the UK and that core value of service which I put at the centre of everything this government does.
“The New Year Honours List celebrates more of these unsung heroes, and I thank them for their incredible contribution.”
