GRUELLING GRIND: Chalfonts care worker takes on 100-mile race to raise funds for charity

The regional director of a Chalfont St Peter care home recently took part in a gruelling 100-mile cycle race to raise money for the company’s charitable foundation.

Wayne Hughes, who is responsible for Chalfont Lodge and other care homes run by parent company Barchester Healthcare, completed Ride 100 across London and Essex on May 28 to fundraise for people with mental or physical disabilities.

The race took him from London Embankment and around the capital and Essex, before finally circling back to the finish line at Tower Bridge.

Staff and residents at Chalfont Lodge have all been joining together to raise money in support of Wayne, including selling homemade cakes.

They have helped Wayne to smash his £400 target and raise nearly £800 so far.

Before the race, Wayne said: “It is going to be a long old day in the saddle, but I’m really excited to take part and I’m hoping to raise lots of money.

“I know all the staff, residents, relatives and visitors are behind me and that they’ll be cheering me on;  it is their support that will keep me going.”
