Bushey Museum & Art Gallery has been named a VisitEngland Hidden Gem, a coveted accolade celebrating the outstanding but lesser-known visitor attractions across the country.
Founded in 1993, the museum now boasts Hertfordshire’s largest public art collection, with exhibitions featuring the work of artists who made a huge imprint in the world of design.
Art lovers can brush up on local heritage with the nationally important collection celebrating Sir Hubert von Herkomer and his art school.
The gallery also showcases the evocative equine paintings of Lucy Kemp-Welch, alongside works from the renowned Monro Circle, with further treasures preserved in the Local Studies Centre.
Audrey Adams, chair of Bushey Museum & Art Gallery, said: “Only 12 attractions of various types from all around the country were deemed worthy, so this is quite an achievement, especially as we are volunteer-run while most of the others have professional management.
“It’s a great tribute to the considerable efforts of all our volunteers and helpers, and everyone should be very proud.”
