Footballers, families and fans came together for the Season Opener tournament last month.
Seven youth teams from across Hertfordshire and North London took part in the tournament, hosted by Watford FC’s Community Sports & Education Trust at the Meriden Community Centre on Saturday, August 16.
Croxley Green Whites U10, Wealdstone Blues U10, Abbotts Youth U10, Harpenden Youth U9, Sarratt Rebels U9, Bushey Rangers U9, and Goff’s Oak U10 all took part in the group stages, which were filled with “skill, determination and great sportsmanship”.
Four teams – Bushey Rangers, Wealdstone U10 Blues, Croxley Green Whites, and Abbotts Youth – progressed to the semi-finals.
However, there could be only one winner. Bushey Rangers lifted the trophy after a consistent performance throughout. Number 10 Sophia was awarded Player of the Tournament.
The trust said there were “plenty of happy faces and great football on show” and added that “the day was the perfect celebration of community, competition and the love of the beautiful game”.
But the fun didn’t stop there. All players and their coaches received a ticket to watch Watford FC’s first home game of the EFL Championship season at Vicarage Road Stadium, where they watched the Hornets beat QPR 2-1.
The trust said: “A huge thank you goes out to all the teams, families, volunteers, coaches and organisers who helped make the event a success.”
