GO-GETTER: Rickmansworth boy races to victory in maiden year of electric kart racing

Published on: 23rd October 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A seven-year-old boy from Rickmansworth has started his electric kart racing career in style, having had a highly successful first year.

Ethan Lloyd has always had a keen interest in motorsports, often spending many hours racing his pedal go-kart around the Aquadrome.

Now, he’s graduated to the real thing, competing in the ‘bambino’ class of electric go-karting for those aged up to eight.

Despite the young age of the racers, it’s no easy feat to compete. Drivers race around circuits at speeds of up to nearly 40mph, but despite this challenge Ethan has more than adapted to it.

In his first race back in May the youngster managed to claim an extraordinary podium finish. Since then, he’s gone from strength to strength through the six-race summer championship, eventually earning enough podium finishes to be awarded the Vice Champion trophy.

Ethan’s father, Daniel, spoke to RICKYnews about his son’s achievements: “Ethan has done far better than I could have possibly expected given his limited experience.

“He now sleeps with a row of his new racing trophies next to his bed which is incredible considering the first time he ever drove a go-kart was in March this year.

“Ethan truly believes he’s going to become an F1 driver. I know that with our limited resources it would be incredibly difficult for that to become a reality, but for now I’ll do whatever I can to help him make the most of his talent and fulfil his dream.”

Currently, Ethan is entirely self-funded, so he and his family are appealing to any local businesses who wish to sponsor him and help him get the best chance of future success. To follow his journey on Instagram, go to @ethans_drive4thechequeredflag
