GARDEN GREEN: Allotment in Kings Langley granted nearly £17,000 from Lotteries Community Fund

Kings Langley Allotments and Gardens Association (KLAGA) has been awarded £16,730 by the Lotteries Community Fund.

The money will be used towards a raised bed project, called A Flood Too Far, to help members of the allotment who have been severely affected by regular flooding at KLAGA’s Sunderlands Yard site.

Acting chair Chris Pichon said: “I felt a responsibility to boost members’ morale because they’ve been struggling with constant flooding.”

The site, which is situated between the River Gade and the Grand Union Canal, has seen increased flooding caused by high water levels in both the canal and river.

Chris added: “It’s a complex issue which has worsened over the past three to four years, due to changes in weather patterns and overdevelopment when rainwater flows into the canal and river.

“Various agencies’ failure to keep the canal and river free from debris, which causes blockages at key points such as the culvert at Home Park Mill Link Road, hasn’t helped either.”
