GENEROUS DONATION: Foundation donates new coffee machine to charity café in Chorleywood

The Café on the Common, run by Chorleywood-based charity Mission EmployAble, has been given a generous donation by a major coffee company.

The popular café closed briefly on Wednesday, September 18, to allow the installation of a new Astoria Espresso coffee machine to replace their ageing previous model. Staff have also now received extra training on how to use the new machine, which was donated by Costa Foundation, the charitable arm of one of the UK’s most popular coffee chains, Costa Coffee. The foundation helps to support education in coffee-growing communities across the world.

A Mission EmployAble spokesperson said: “Our baristas have spent a full training day down at the Costa Training Centre in Basildon to learn how this new machine can perfect a cup of coffee to the minutia of spec.

“Our interns will be able to learn the art of making the perfect cup of coffee, milk steaming, coffee blends and latte art with the support of our lead baristas, who have strong knowledge from the roasting process right through to coffee brewing techniques, thorough attention to detail and delivering outstanding customer service!”

This new addition to the café is set to make experiences more unique and quicker for customers.

Mission EmployAble is continuing to use local coffee supplier, Redemption Roasters. The company aims to reduce reoffending by setting up a roastery in HMP The Mount in Bovingdon to train prisoners.

Mission EmployAble offers training to young adults with learning disabilities to help them find paid employment. They offer year-long supported internships at their café to teach a range of transferable skills.
