Local football players could soon enjoy new facilities after an application was put forward for a major refurbishment of the pavilion in Chorleywood.
The clubhouse building, which is used by Chorleywood Common Youth Football Club (CCYFC), has been in need of sprucing up for years. According to Three Rivers District Council, the last major application for the site was in 1997.
Now, plans have been put forward for a single-storey extension to the clubhouse and a number of internal alterations, including replacements for the doors, windows, roof, porch canopy and wall cladding.
In a designment statement, the developers of the plans, Nick Willson Architects, said: “The existing club pavilion is a tired and dated facility that requires modernisation and improvement to ensure that it can keep providing support for local communities and grassroots football.
“The proposed application will seek to provide this and a much-improved facility for the growing club and local children.”
At the time of writing, the reaction of Chorleywood residents to the application has been unanimously positive. All 12 of the comments left on TRDC’s planning portal are in support of the proposals.
One comment from a Rickmansworth resident states: “A much-needed upgrade to the clubhouse at the football club, which will make a huge difference.
“Careful consideration has been given to the current environment. The new pavilion will offer an opportunity for players, parents, visitors and local communities to come closer together and enjoy much improved/newer facilities.”
Another resident said: “With two boys who play for Chorleywood and a husband who coaches a team, this build is vital for the continued development of the club.
“The club provides children and the community with vital life skills, and this build will ensure that it can thrive for many years to come.”
However, Chorleywood Parish Council’s Planning Committee has expressed concern over the plans.
Their statement reads: “Due to the extent of the hard standing proposed, it is considered that this element of application could amount to inappropriate development in the green belt.
“With regards to the building itself, the committee commends the design aspiration to improve a community asset.”
