FOND FAREWELL: Chinese restaurant in Amersham to close its doors after 26 years

Published on: 12th April 2023   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A beloved Chinese restaurant in Amersham has announced it will be closing its doors on May 1 after 26 years in the community.

Ken’s Beijing on Station Road, now called Yumshi, first opened in 1997. The restaurant has been run by Johnny Leung’s parents since then, until Johnny took over the restaurant and reopened it as a takeaway with his two brothers in 2020.

Speaking to AMERSHAMnews about why the family decided to close the restaurant, Johnny said they all felt like it was time after rising financial pressures.

He said: “We have been keeping this playing going which is very hard work for everyone including my parents and they just wanted to retire.

“It got to a point where we would need to put a lot more effort and money in to get to a place where we happy but that would be a massive risk in the industry right now.”

Johnny added that it has been lovely to read all the warm comments from customers and says he couldn’t have asked for better.

The family also wanted to give a shout out to Amersham Town Football Club, who they have sponsored and who they believe deserve more support and recognition.
