A planning application has been submitted to transform Stanmore’s Pizza Express into a pair of one-bed flats.
The application, submitted by DS Squared Architects, also proposes to extend the first floor of the restaurant on The Broadway to create space for two further flats, while paving the way for a three- and four-storey building consisting of 11 flats at a nearby site.
The Pizza Express stands next to the Grade II listed property Broadway Cottages. An attached heritage statement as part of the application suggests that “the proposed redevelopment of site A [Pizza Express] will enhance this area”.
The application has received 55 public comments.
Regarding a lack of parking provisions laid out, one letter said: “It is unrealistic to assume that any of the 15 new flats will have no cars that will be displaced on the road.”
While residents stated on Facebook their desire to keep the restaurant, councillor Marilyn Ashton responded saying that the council cannot force a business to keep trading.
