A Gerrards Cross resident has spoken of his concerns that too many trees are being felled in the town.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “I have only seen two to three public trees planted where others were removed and that was only after much pushing from me and others.”
A spokesperson for Gerrards Cross Town Council said: “Following a fire lasting several days in the early 1900s, the Commons were unmanaged and reverted to scrubland. A great many small, inferior oaks germinated and are now crowding out the more mature oaks. From the above, you can see that planting more trees on the Commons is not appropriate, and would further crowd out the maturing trees, which we wish to promote.
“The regular survey of the trees on the Commons was completed recently. Ash dieback was detected as widespread. Many of the ash trees were in close proximity to a public footway and so with public safely paramount, they had to be felled.”
Buckinghamshire Council has also been contacted for comment.
