FIRST PLACE: Hemel Hempstead Swim club win County golds for England

Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club (HHSC) headed to the East Region Open Water Championships, on Sunday, July 9, where they won a smashing six medals.

The event which took place on Sunday, July 9 in Norwich saw the best swimmers from across the East Region compete, for a chance to qualify for the National Open Water Championships.

Three HHSC swimmers, Mat Rafiq-Craske, Hilary Coulson and Shane Coulson, headed to Norwich, where they competed in the East Regional 3K event, bringing home 1 Regional gold, 2 Regional silvers and 3 County golds.

The event was Shane’s first ever 3K swim competition, where he took home the Regional and County Gold, whilst Matt and Hilary also collected a Regional Silver and County Gold each.

Shane and Hilary qualified and will go to Thrybergh County Park to compete in the Swim England National Open Water event. This takes place on Saturday, July 29, as Hemel News went to print.

Hilary Coulson spoke to Hemel News and said: “The team had a great day out and were very happy with their swims, with many lessons learnt. Shane and I are excited to be attending Nationals representing HHSC and hope to improve on our swims and hopefully bring home some National medals!”
