A church in Bedmond has been awarded an international environmental award.
The Church of the Ascension, affectionally known by many locals as the ‘Tin Church’, has been given the Bronze Eco Award accreditation by A Rocha International, a global network of organisations all of whom share a Christian ethos.
The initiative operates in 20 different countries around the world and works with larger groups such as the Church of England, handing out awards to congregations who are working hard to improve their eco-friendliness.
In order to get their award, the Tin Church’s congregation was assessed in an eco-survey which took into account five different key factors of church life: worship and teaching, management of church buildings, management of church land, community and global engagement, and a person’s lifestyle.
Churchwarden Carol Higgs said: “The congregation at Bedmond are delighted to receive this award and are already looking at ways they can do more to care for the environment, working towards a silver award.”
