A care home worker in Chalfont St Peter has won a national award for community engagement in the area.
Alex Perkins, activities coordinator at Chalfont Lodge Care Home, was praised for going the extra mile for her residents at the Barchester Care Awards.
More than 1,900 nominations were received from colleagues in Barchester homes and hospitals across the UK.
After being shortlisted as one of four divisional winners, Alex met with category judge Anna Shirley, director of marketing and customer experience at Barchester Healthcare for the last round of judging, before joining the other divisional winners from across the UK at a special awards ceremony in October, and when she won, was presented with the trophy and the national title by Barchester’s CEO Dr Pete Calveley.
Alex said of her win: “I am very proud, and very honoured to be receiving this award. We work hard here at our home with a focus on the people we care for, and not for accolades, but it really is very special to be recognised in this way.”
Barchester’s Anna Shirley said: “After starting life in Chalfont Lodge as a volunteer five years ago, Alex is always looking for new opportunities to put the home on the map, and with utter belief that community engagement builds residents’ confidence.
“Alex works tirelessly to engage in a plethora of community groups and activities, from the Chalfont Lodge art exhibition to Cruffs at Chalfont to Sports days there is something for everyone.
“Her art classes are renowned in the community and bring together all ages to create memories and nurture their inner Van Gogh.
“Alex even has an ‘adopt a grandchild’ scheme which is a fantastic example of an intergenerational initiative and something that she tells me is a big hit with the children and the residents.”
