ENHANCED SERVICES: Cancer centre in Northwood faces relocation to new facility

Published on: 12th January 2026   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Uncategorized

Northwood and Ruislip residents may want to have their say as West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals (WHTH) opens consultations on relocating the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre to a new facility next to Watford General Hospital.

From Monday, January 19, to Sunday, March 29, the public is invited to share its views on the proposals.

With plans approved for a new Watford General Hospital, if the Mount Vernon relocation goes ahead, it is expected to enhance cancer services.

Proposals have developed over several years following an independent review highlighting the need for modernised, specialised cancer care.

The announcement comes after the Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner Service (UCNPS) in Northwood closed in September 2025.

Its closure prompted petitions and a letter from David Simmonds, MP for Northwood, Ruislip and Pinner, to the health secretary.

Chief Executive Adam Sewell Jones said: “Our staff at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre deliver outstanding care, and a new cancer centre would allow them to provide the most modern, innovative treatments.”

No! Mount Vernon is brilliant and in a good location! Watford Hospital is awful and in a bad situation – commonly know you only ‘go there to die! Especially on match day! Needs to be pulled down and we need a modern, centrally based hospital for all of West Hertfordshire!

Another gross waste of money. Spend it on improving the Mount Vernon site instead so t hat local people can gain access to decent treatment.
