A long-closed church in North Watford could reopen with a potential new role after updated plans to turn the current place of worship into a mosque were submitted.
The application relates to the former Leavesden Road Baptist Church, which closed its doors back in 2021.
Initial plans were lodged in November 2025 but temporarily removed from Watford Borough Council’s planning system in December 2025 while further information was requested.
Further drawings have since been added to the application, bringing it back onto the planning portal.
The documents show proposed changes to the outside of the building and outline how rooms inside would be used.
A decision had been expected before the end of December, but the target date has moved to Friday, January 30.
The site was taken over in 2024 and has hosted activities including youth groups, sessions for older residents, literacy support for children, health initiatives and community workshops.
If plans are approved, the building will serve the community and will offer wider facilities such as a nursery.
