This month’s historical photo is from the Wellcome Trust archives and depicts the interior of a Croxley house inhabited by a famous scientist.
Little Gillions was built by physiologist Sir Edward Sharpey-Schafer, who lived there with his wife and children during the late 1800s.
In this picture, taken some time between 1880 and 1899, the family’s maid Emma can be seen entering the parlour.
A parlour room was seen as a sign of higher social status in the 19th century, often being used to receive guests in.
Do you have any historical photos of Croxley?
Please send them to us at newsdesk@mynewsmag.co.uk and they could feature in a future edition of the magazine.
