‘DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED’: Chorleywood Parish Council appeals late-night licence for new restaurant

Chorleywood Parish Council (CPC) has recently appealed a decision by Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) to grant a late-night licence for a new Indian restaurant.

The Bank is set to open on Station Approach, with proprietors Joe Bhat and Dr Dipa Patel hoping the new restaurant will restore a “beautiful” historic bank. The pair have been given an extended licence to sell alcohol and remain open until the early hours of the morning, which has been met with significant concern from residents.

A CPC spokesperson told CHORLEYWOODnews: “We are deeply disappointed that we have been forced into appealing the grant of the licence. We’ve been forced into this because of concerns over the publicity of the consultation on the application and the applicant’s refusal to allow the Licensing Committee to consider comments submitted by residents.

“The council wants every business in the parish to succeed, but this can only be achieved with the support of residents. The council has reached out to the applicant to try and discuss the residents’ concerns to reach a mutually acceptable resolution.

“Unfortunately, the applicant has so far failed to respond to this. With the restaurant due to open shortly, the council hopes that the applicant will engage to ensure both a successful business and a happy residential area.”

Jane Tozer, chair of Chorleywood Residents’ Association, said: “We support the council in undertaking this appeal. Like the council, we want every business in Chorleywood to succeed, but this will only happen if they respect their neighbours and other residents of Chorleywood.”

A Three Rivers District Council spokesperson said: “Chorleywood Parish Council has exercised their right to appeal the decision made by the district council, as per the legislated requirements of the Licensing Act 2003.

“The appeal is made solely on the basis that the parish council believes that the district council should have imposed different/additional conditions.”

The Bank have been contacted for comment.
