For the ninth year running, Watford has received the most Green Flag Awards of all the areas across Hertfordshire.
Seventeen spaces, including Cassiobury Park, KGV Playing Fields and Callowland Recreation Ground, received the award for having high environmental, maintenance and visitor standards.
Investments made by Watford Borough Council and Veolia, the council’s waste management company, aim to champion local areas and improve cleanliness and safety.
Initiatives such as the Cassiobury Park Restoration Project and the creation of Oxhey Activity Park have introduced new facilities to the community, including a skate park and play area. Both areas have been nominated in the top 10 UK parks and have been recognised by Keep Britain Tidy.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “When I speak to residents, many of them tell me that our fantastic parks and green spaces are one of the things they love most about Watford.”
Darren Harding, senior contract manager at Veolia, said the awards are “important for recognising the value of our parks and green spaces to both biodiversity and people’s health and wellbeing”.
Cassiobury Park and Cheslyn House & Gardens also received Green Heritage Site accreditation for their historic features and standard of conservation.
