LEAD EXTENDED: Stones clear at the top

Published on: 10th December 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Wealdstone F.C

Wealdstone extended their lead at the top of the National League South to seven points this evening after a strong first half performance earned them a 2-0 victory against Eastbourne Borough at The Vale.

First half goals from Dennon Lewis and Jerome Okimo sealed the three points for the Stones, and Dean Brennan’s men also kept a third consecutive league clean sheet.

The Stones began strongly and Lewis broke the deadlock after 16 minutes, converting a loose ball in the penalty area.

Luton Town loanee goalkeeper Harry Isted was forced into a one-on-one save moments later, denying Sports striker Iver Gregory.

Before the break, the league leaders found their second when Okimo fired a riffle in at the near post to double the Stones’ lead going into the break.

Eastbourne improved in the second period and did not capitalise on chances offered to them at the start of the second half.

The game petered out to a close as the Stones secured another three points in the push for promotion.
