St Albans Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) officers have arrested seven people in two days.

On Tuesday, June 27, three men – all aged in their 30s – were arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation, after Police Community Support Officers were contacted via their ShopWatch radios about suspected counterfeit iPods and iWatches being sold in St Peter’s Street.

Fake Apple iWatches and iPods were recovered, as well as more than £1,000 of suspected stolen clothing.

The men have been given a community resolution.

Following that, four people – two women and two men – were arrested at around 11.30am yesterday morning (Wednesday, June 28) on suspicion of theft in Chequer Street, as part of a proactive operation to target purse dippers and shoplifters in the city centre.

Hidayet Aytak, 20; Bogdan Constantin, 35; and Christina Cica, 30, all of Holloway Street, Wolverhampton, along with Ronaldo Stana, 20, of no fixed abode, were charged with theft overnight and are due before St Albans Magistrates’ Court on August 1.

More than £1,000 of clothing from Fatface was recovered.

A spokesperson for St Albans SNT said: “If you have bought goods which you suspect may not be genuine, please email your Safer Neighbourhood Team stalbans@herts.police.uk

“Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Always purchase goods from a reputable company.”
