England midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah made his long-awaited return to the Watford starting line-up as they saw off Reading in the second round of the Carabo Cup.
The game at the Madjeski Stadium also saw summer signing Ken Sema start for the first time while fellow new boys Domingos Quina, Ben Wilmot and Adam Masina made their debuts for Javi Gracia’s men.
It was Isaac Success who put the Hornets ahead after 36 mins when the Nigerian striker rounded Reading goalkeeper Sam Walker to fire the visitors ahead after he was fed by Masina.
Portugese teenager Domingos Quina had been linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona and Hornets fans were thrilled to see the 18-year-old double Watford’s lead with a 30-yard screamer just after the hour.
Marc McNulty and Yakou Meite had chances for the home side late on but they were second best throughout and the Hornets were worthy winners.
In the end, 2,514 Watford fans will have travelled back full of heart after another impressive performance and the Golden Boys are due to discover their third-round opponents when the draw is made tomorrow.
