Dacorum Borough Council (DBC) has urged residents to be wary after a parking scam happened in Lower Kings Road in Berkhamsted.
In a post released on DBC’S Facebook on Tuesday, October 17, the council said that a resident recently had their bank card taken from them whilst they were trying to pay for parking.
A man approached the resident claiming to be a parking attendant, and he then said the machine was not working and took them to another machine.
He said he would help them to pay for their slot, and then took their card, but the resident thought the machine had taken it and not the scammer.
DBC has asked citizens to be cautious of strangers offering help at payment machines.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm an incident took place on Wednesday, October 9 at the Lower Kings Road car park in Berkhamsted, where a man impersonating a parking attendant took a resident’s bank card in a payment machine scam.
“The resident has reported the crime to the police, and we urge anyone affected by this or other scams to report it to the police and contact their banking provider. If you require any further information, please contact the Police.”
