A woman who created an online support network for women going through the menopause after nine months of “living in black hole” has big plans for 2020.
Karen Ashworth was living unhappily after she started the menopause and had the idea to set up a closed Facebook group for women to join and discuss any worries they had, or just to speak to people who were experiencing the same thing as them.
Speaking to AbbotsNews, Karen said: “We are now only a few members short of 400, in such a short amount of time it’s amazing, we even have members from all over the globe; Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America and more.
“There’s always a conversation going on in the group, we speak and listen daily. We have lots of plans for 2020, including more group meetings, a barge trip, where we’ll drink prosecco and eat some nibbles, and we have made plans to take 16 of us to Wales for a girl’s trip.
“Every time I’m out and about in Abbots Langley, I always bump into a member, and the main thing they tell me is how much they like being involved in the group and how I should be proud, as its still a subject that is taboo.
“This morning, I spoke with one of our members from Canada, she was going to bed as I was waking up, and we had a nice chat, its so lovely that we are able to do this.”
To join the Facebook group, visit facebook.com/groups/2420095281591969/ and if you don’t have access to Facebook, email Newsroom@mynewsmag.co.uk and your information will be passed on to Karen.
