Aldenham Country Park has announced the unexpected birth of rare quadruplet lambs.
The farm team were expecting triplets, so the fourth lamb was a surprise to all involved.
Speaking to RADLETTnews, a spokesperson for the farm shared: “We are pleased to announce we have welcomed a rare and heart-warming sight on the farm: the birth of quadruplet lambs. With the assistance of our farm manager, Maria, the ewe had a successful delivery and the lambs were happy and healthy!
“The birth of quadruplets is a rare occurrence in the farming world and bought joy to the farm team who were only expecting triplets.”
When first lambing, a ewe is likely to produce only one lamb. In subsequent pregnancies, birthing two to three lambs is relatively common, however quadruplets are very rare.
The spokesperson added: “Visitors can now see the lambs interacting with their mother and exploring their new surroundings, plus meet all of the other friendly farm animals.”
