Preparation for Rickmansworth’s boat festival is well underway ahead of its return this month.
Following the cancellation of the Rickmansworth Canal Festival, which had taken place since 1993, the Batchworth Boat Rally was founded last year to allow residents from far and wide to continue enjoying boats from the local area.
Last month, the organisation welcomed grants from the Rickmansworth & District Residents’ Association and Hertfordshire County Council to help fund the ongoing costs of the rally.
Taking place on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, the rally will include floating traders and decorated boats, refreshments, and a variety of canal-based traders. The closing ceremony will take place at around 5pm on Sunday at Batchworth Lock.
This year, the event will be celebrating old working boats that were rolled out in 1935 by the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company, including one boat that is believed to be 127 years old.
