‘BETTER SOLUTION’: Petition organiser demands answers over closure of Rickmansworth Aquadrome woodland path

A resident has addressed Three Rivers District Council (TRDC), seeking answers over the closure of the Rickmansworth Aquadrome woodland path.

The path was initially closed for health and safety reasons because of seasonal flooding. This year has seen more significant rainfall, causing structural damage to the pathway and meaning that it is currently unsafe for public use.

It has now been closed for over a year. Paul Harding, the organiser of a petition to reopen the pathway which now has more than 750 signatures, shared his comments with RICKYnews.

At the meeting, he said: “The Rickmansworth Aquadrome woodland path has been closed for over a year now, due to professional advice received by TRDC that says it is ‘unsafe’. There has been no evidence issued by TRDC to verify that statement.”

He also criticised the amount of time being taken to publish the hydrological report, after which TRDC says it can reopen the path.

On their website, TRDC wrote: “The council is focused on a long-term solution and therefore has secured external funding to repair the woodland pathway as well as bring habitat improvements.

“Any new pathways will be designed to work in harmony with seasonal flooding – and provide a better long-term solution for all. We expect the results of the hydrological study soon. Many alternative pathways and walking routes remain open within the Aquadrome for everyone to use and enjoy. The council thanks visitors for their patience and understanding.”
