The 2023 UK Vitality Index has ranked Watford third out of the UK’s 100 largest urban areas, ahead of nearby Hemel Hempstead and Milton Keynes.
The annual health assessment of the UK’s largest towns and cities outside London, undertaken by property consultancy firm Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), identifies where the best places are to live and do business.
Each area is ranked on the vitality of three parts of city life, being the health and environment, economy and business, and on the living standard including education, lifestyle, and GCSE results. Watford is the only location to achieve a Top 10 placement across all three categories.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “I am proud that Watford is being recognised across the UK as an outstanding place to live and do business. Ensuring Watford remains vibrant, with something for everyone, has always been top of my agenda.
“Through careful planning and investment – including in the town centre, parks, business facilities and arts and culture – we have seen the town continue to flourish. We showed tremendous resilience in our response to the pandemic, and now we are meeting the cost of living crisis head-on too, supporting our communities and continuing to move forward with opportunities which will make a lasting difference to the people and businesses of Watford.”
