A Bushey resident’s dreams have come true after winning at the Oscars of dog shows with her three golden retrievers.
Karen Williams, 58, has loved dog shows since she was a child and shows her three four legged companions at shows across the country.
This year at Crufts, Karen’s three-year-old dog Xavier, whose show name is Berrymeade Coeur Blimey at Busheyhall, beat 22 dogs to win in the Graduate class in Golden Retrievers on Gundog Day.
Speaking about the win, Karen said: “Crufts is the Oscars of the dog world and everyone wants to be there. Indeed people travel half way around the world to compete, just to tread the famous green carpet.
“When the judge pulled me out, I’m afraid all I remember is a huge cheer from my friends ringside, before dissolving into tears on the steward’s shoulder…!
“People think there’s some mystique to showing but really, all you need is the right dog and a good mentor. I don’t breed, my dogs are just much-loved pets and the day after Crufts we were back in King George’s Park getting muddy and wet like every other dog!”
