BACK STRONGER: Pinner’s Martin Gould reaches European Masters final after recent struggles

After admitting his mental health struggles while playing at the Snooker World Championship back in August, Pinner’s Martin Gould showed his resurgence by reaching the final of the European Masters.

The Pinner Potter admitted recently that he was struggling due to the online abuse he had received, and even considered walking away from the sport he loves.

Speaking to The Metro, Gould admitted that despite losing in the final, he wasn’t too downhearted.

He said: “I didn’t even feel that bad when I lost in the final, obviously I was disappointed, but in all honesty I didn’t expect to be in the final so I didn’t beat myself up about it. I played great, but lost to a proven, great champion.

“Obviously, a day like now, locked in my room, a few months ago I don’t think I’d have been able to do it. It’s easier now, I don’t feel like I’m climbing walls. It’s certainly got easier.

“I haven’t had a blip, which a couple of people have told me I should expect at some point. I haven’t had it yet, hopefully that doesn’t come any time soon.”

Gould’s form has seen him climb up the rankings recently and is showing signs that he is getting back to his best.

After the final, Gould tweeted his appreciation to the kind support he has recently received.

He said: “Thank you for all your kind tweets and messages, most appreciated. Really enjoyed my week and it was nice to play some good snooker. Fair play to Mark Selby, we had a great game and he showed why he’s a great champion.”
