The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire is celebrating the “astonishing commitment” of the children who run in Berkhamsted’s weekly junior parkrun.
The volunteer-run community event takes place in the grounds of Ashlyns School and is open to children aged four to 14. At 9am every Sunday, the group set off on a timed 2km run.
On Sunday, September 22, the children were joined by former GB athlete and special guest, the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Annie Brewster.
This year, the theme of the High Sheriff’s office is Sport for Good, and she has visited various local groups to spur on young future sporting stars.
A special mention was given to Jaiden for earning his half marathon wristband, having run an incredible 13.1 miles during his time at the parkrun.
Posting on social media after her visit, the High Sheriff said: “Astonishing commitment from over 30 children, their parents but, most of all, your heroic volunteer marshals defying the rain this morning.
“Thank you for your wonderful welcome and your relentless dedication to enable so many four to 14 year olds to be active in the brilliant Berkhamsted community!”
