ACTION NOW: Petition calls for Rickmansworth path to reopen following seven-month closure

Published on: 1st December 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A petition calling for the reopening of the woodland path in Rickmansworth Aquadrome was launched on Wednesday, November 13.

The petition on Change.org states that the path is not damaged enough to warrant its closue.

It reads: “For over seven months now, the woodland path in Ricky Aquadrome has been isolated for ‘safety reasons’.

“The path is not as damaged as other paths in the area, yet this one is barred – awaiting the outcome of a hydrological survey.

“This has prevented everyone from enjoying the area’s natural beauty. [It] shows our local council is inept of the area’s management.

“Should the path remain closed through the winter months when trees are most likely to fall, it would take much longer to clear the path before reopening it – whenever the time came.

“Reopening it now will enable all Aquadrome visitors to enjoy the facility.”

At the time of writing, the petition already has 278 signatures. To view the petition, please visit

TRDC said: “The council understands that Aquadrome users are keen to see the woodland pathway reopened, that is the council’s desire too. The path is currently closed for Health and Safety reasons owing to seasonal flooding which is an important aspect of the site’s purpose and ecology. This year has seen more significant rainfall, causing structural damage to the pathway meaning that it is currently unsafe for public use.

“Short term repairs to the pathway would likely be washed away with any further significant rainfall and flooding, resulting in the re-closure of the path and a waste of limited council funds.

“The council is focused on a long-term solution, and therefore has secured external funding to repair the woodland pathway as well as bring habitat improvements. The design of the upgraded pathway will be informed by a hydrological survey that is currently taking place.”
