Dean Russell, MP for Watford, visited the Hare Krishna Bhaktivedanta Manor on Sunday, April 21, to offer a special gift during the Ram Navami celebrations.
To say thank you to the manor for all they have done for the community, including running a food bank and supporting local initiatives, Mr Russell MP embarked on an 18-month project of painting one of the manor’s pivotal historical moments.
George Harrison MBE, lead guitarist for The Beatles, donated the mock-Tudor country house near Radlett as a centre for Hare Krishna rituals and learning after he became involved with the religious movement.
Mr Russell MP decided to paint Mr Harrison and A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who raised awareness of the Hare Krishna movement, to pay homage to this turning point in its history.
Mr Russell MP told WATFORDnews: “It was an absolute privilege and pleasure to attend Ram Navami and to present my painting.
“I was really overwhelmed and moved by the reaction from attendees and the wider community when it was unveiled. I hope the artwork will bring as much pleasure to everyone who views the painting as it has been to paint the artwork.”
