Despite the poor weather affecting the number of entries this year, the recent Bovingdon Gardeners Spring Show was still a daffodil lover’s dream.
Organised by Bovingdon Horticultural Society and taking place at the village memorial hall on Saturday, April 6, the beautiful exhibits demonstrated the diverse skills of Bovingdon residents and members from further afield.
Amongst all the fantastic floral sights, however, only a few could be declared as winners. This year’s Wildacre Cup went to Gillian Johansson, who won the most points in the daffodil, other flowers and plant pot sections.
Gillian also won the Daffodil Society Medal for her fantastic Jersey roundabout bloom.
The closest contest of the day was between Mavis Lawrence and Josephine Menzies for the coveted Langley Leisure Cup, with Mavis pipping her opponent to the post by just one point.
Susan Chester won the Pendley Estates Cup for her painting, A River Scene, described by the judges as having an eye-catching bold brushwork with a limited palette.
Other award winners included new exhibitor Linda Comerford, who won the Challenge Cup for her patchwork bag, and three-year-old Zara Johansson, who won the Junior Prize Certificate for her nature crown.
