£8,000: Chalfont St Peter community comes together after café destroyed by vandals

Robertswood Rangers FC’s (RRFC) members are excited to announce the opening of a new café after the previous one was burnt down by vandals.

The new cafe was made possible thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Chalfont St Peter community.

The old cafe had been built up over several years by the FC’s volunteers and there was a lot of upset when it was destroyed by the fire.

Treasurer of RRFC, Kirsty Etherington, spoke to ChalfontsNews and said: “We had amazing support from the local community with nearly £8k raised to help fund a new cafe. We have also had generous offers from the local community including a brand new kitchen donated and about to be installed for free by a local parent.

“One evening in November a couple of years ago, some kids had gone to the field trying to find something of value and we think they couldn’t find what they wanted so they burnt the place down.

“It’s such a shame because it’s been built up entirely through volunteering, people donating, in fact all the equipment has been donated. We spent the last few years trying to rebuild it but because of COVID-19 it’s been delayed.

“A lot of people were gutted, especially the people who have been involved with it from many many years ago as they poured their life and soul into it.”

Now parents are excited for the reopening of the cafe and to be able to have a warm cup of coffee while watching their kids playing football.

Kirsty added: “It feels great to be able to reopen, the kids are really excited and I’m sure the parents will be too.

“After the game we used to do a big round up and while we do that the kids sit down and eat a hot dog, I know it’s something small but that’s really been missing.”
